Depending on your race, October probably holds a quarterly report, a pre-general report, or both. Look yours up today. Not the week of. Today.
I’m harping on this because of when these deadlines land: right on top of your busiest stretch. The pre-general report shows up exactly when you should be scheduling GOTV shifts, and every hour your treasurer spends untangling September’s contributions is an hour stolen from the part of the campaign that wins votes.
The campaigns that handle this without pain all do the same unglamorous thing: they record contributions when they arrive, not when the report is due. If that’s been you all cycle, congratulations, October is a formality.
If it hasn’t been you, two options. Option one: block a full evening this week — not filing week — and get caught up while the pile is still small. Option two is why we built the compliance module in SparkReach. Contributions go in as they come, and the report generates itself with the checks already run. It flags the records that need review before your treasurer ever opens the form. I built it because I’ve been the guy doing this at 11pm the night before a deadline, and I have opinions about that experience.
Either way: calendar the deadline today.
